The State of Palestine submitted its first report on its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to the Secretariat of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in 2016. Among its commitments, Palestine’s NDC highlights the use of renewable energy and increased energy efficiency as vital areas to be pursued in Palestine’s climate actions.
Palestine has also signed and ratified the Paris Climate Agreement, a landmark binding agreementthat brings countriestogether in a common cause to undertake significant efforts to combat climate change and adapt to its effects. Despite Palestine’s small share of global greenhouse gas emissions, it has ambitious aims to reduce emissions and address climate change challenges. Promoting sustainable energy is critical for mitigating the effects of climate change. Accelerating the adoption of clean energy solutions will be essential for Palestine to realize its commitments within the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals.
